Carmelite Monastery, Trip Lane, Linton, Wetherby,

The enclosed Carmelite life still flourishes today and our own Carmel at Wood Hall is one of these houses, rooted in the ancient tradition of the early Carmelite hermits who lived on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. We are blessed with beautiful surroundings, situated as we are in the lower part of the Wharfe valley, surrounded by ancient woodland.
We were founded forty years ago from the Carmel at York and our community has continued to grow over these years. We are a vibrant, united community of fifteen sisters living together in a modern house reflecting Teresian simplicity.
We try to live centred on the Gospel, sharing with joy and love a life with its unique Carmelite balance between solitude and community. We cherish our 800-year old heritage and live an enclosed, structured contemplative life whose purpose is apostolic, reaching out to the world's great needs in our prayer. At the heart of our prayer we hold the widespread suffering of the poor and needy ones of our times. In solidarity with the poor we try to live as simply as we can.
We believe that contemplative life in community, in the energies of its prayer, through the love generated by its daily acts of loving surrender to God and the service of each other in the community, reaches deeply into the needs of the suffering world.
"In the heart of my Mother, the Church, I will be Love". (St Thérèse of Lisieux)
